The I.U.O.E. would like to thank our bargaining team members for their hard work, dedication and perseverance during this arduous process. We would also like to thank our members who supported our fight for a fair and equitable contract by showing up at rallies and demonstrations at CalHR and other state construction sites. The International Union of Operational Engineers and the State agreed to engage in mediation in good faith prior to the impasse in order to find common ground and reach provisional agreement on a new treaty. The mediation date is scheduled for Monday, September 26, 2016. The current contract with Unit 12 is valid from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021. The parties remain divided on the amount of general salary increases, the amount of the employee contribution for retired doctors (OPEB) and the duration of the agreement. On Wednesday, October 26, we again submitted our request for an impasse to the Commission des relations publiques d`emploi (PERB). PERB has five days to accede to or reject our request for an impasse. Our fight for a fair and equitable treaty continues.

Curly, and the entire Local 501 family are deeply saddened to hear the tragic news of the death of Brother Jorge Lopez. On Thursday, September 1, 2016, Elder Lopez was struck and killed by a large drill rig on State Route 14 in Acton, California, while working to safety on our highways. On behalf of Edward J. Curly, Local 501 expresses its deepest condolences to the Lopez family, friends, colleagues and extended family of CalTrans for the loss of one of our CalTrans workers and union members in the State of California. Brother Lopez is survived by his wife Leticia and three children. As soon as we have a fixed date for implementation, we will publish it in an explosion of emails and publish it on our website. .
